Data of increasingly larger scale is becoming more important and more necessary in scientific research. High-bandwidth networking is required to move this data from powerful instruments that generate it to powerful computing systems that process it to massive storage systems that preserve it. This networking capability is necessary to enable collaborations among the researchers at all UT System institutions.
UT SysNet has begun deploying infrastructure to ensure 10 Gbps connectivity to the border routers of the 15 UT System institutions. This effort will connect each institution and each of the three data centers (at Arlington, Houston, and Austin) to a 10-gigabit network. Each institution is responsible for ensuring that 10 Gbps connectivity is extended and demonstrated ‘end-to-end’ into at least two research locations within the institution.
The map below shows the UTRC network deployment plan (.pdf file - last updated 3/23/2012) and progress to date. It will be updated as new sites are connected.
