Mr. Arjuna (“Arjun”) Sanga assumed duties at The University of Texas System as Associate Vice Chancellor for Technology Transfer in October 2005. Mr. Sanga also served as interim Vice Chancellor for Research and Technology Transfer from December, 2006 until June, 2007. In his role as Associate Vice Chancellor, his primary responsibility is to provide innovative and strategic leadership, coordination, and facilitation of major technology transfer initiatives and policy, including the development and implementation of strategies to expand and enhance technology transfer and research funding to UT System institutions.
During his tenure at the UT System Mr. Sanga has led various research and technology transfer initiatives. As a part of his role in organizing the nano-electronics advisory board, Mr. Sanga created the system for administering a $30 million fund for recruiting nano-electronics researchers to UT institutions among a broad coalition of stakeholders including faculty, administrators, industry partners and the Governor’s office. This resulted in facilitating the institutions’ rapid recruitment of nationally recognized scientists with experience in translating research for the benefit of society. Sanga has worked with management of Sandia National Laboratories to strengthen links between Sandia and the UT System. Sanga has implemented regionally organized technology transfer offices bringing multiple institutions together to create synergies and economies of scale. Sanga organized the inaugural Chancellor’s entrepreneurship and innovation awards and the inaugural system-wide Research and Technology Transfer Showcase. He also organized special interest groups among system institutions’ technology transfer offices, around topics such as licensing, new ventures, copyright and data management.
Before coming to UT System, Mr. Sanga served as Corporate Counsel for the University of Kansas Center for Research, a nonprofit corporation charged with managing research administration for the Lawrence campus University of Kansas. In that role he provided advice for the full range of university research issues. Sanga worked on compliance issues relating to personnel, technology transfer and intellectual property. He also worked with researchers, faculty and administrators on a wide variety of legal issues.
Sanga is currently an advisory board member of the Austin Technology Council and has been an active member in national professional organizations including the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges and the Association of University Technology Managers.
Sanga received his juris doctor of law from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Washington, with an emphasis in Chemistry and Computer Science. He is a registered patent attorney and a member of the Kansas Bar and Missouri Bar.
