Chancellor's Excellence Awards

The Chancellor’s Excellence Awards recognize exceptional performance and best practices in key areas of External Relations. You are invited to submit entries for consideration of a 2016 Chancellor’s Excellence Award. A committee of peer reviewers at The University of Texas System will serve as judges in the competition. This year, we will be accepting entries for projects completed from September 1, 2014 through August 31, 2016. Each institution may submit only one entry per category. For questions, please email

Excellence in Overall Fundraising Performance

Recognizes institutions that show solid program growth and breadth in the base of support and other marks of a mature program. No submissions necessary. Data gathered from CAE reports.

Excellence in Fundraising Improvement 

Recognizes growth of philanthropic support from previous years as well as significant program growth over multiple years. Institutions are evaluated within appropriate peer groups. No submissions necessary. Data gathered from CAE reports.

Excellence in Advancement Services

Recognizes exemplary programs, projects and initiatives in advancement services that serve as models for other institutions, provides a successful solution to overcoming challenges, reflects strategic use of resources, achieves significant results and/or utilizes innovative practices. Entries can be in any area of advancement services including endowment administration and compliance, gift administration, operations and information systems, gift reporting and prospect research.

Excellence in Special Events

Recognizes excellence in the planning and execution of official events and special activities for UT institutions. Please submit a one-page summary that outlines the strategies used to achieve defined goals, the target audience, and how the event advanced the institution’s mission. Please also include any supplemental materials such as invitations, programs, and photos.

Outstanding Publications

Recognizes outstanding work in the production of both print and online publications (institutional, recruitment and alumni magazines, e-newsletters, and other specialty communications) that advance the university’s mission with excellence in writing, design and creativity. Please submit two to five issues representative of the past year's publishing cycle.

Excellence in Media Relations

Recognizes overall excellence in strategic communications efforts that educate and inform the public about a specific program, initiative or situation. Such efforts may include crisis communications, op-eds, press releases, as well as prepared video and broadcast remarks. Please submit a one-page summary outlining strategies and achieved outcomes. Please include collateral material used to represent your efforts.  

Excellence in Digital Strategy

Recognizes excellence in the creative use of digital marketing – including but not limited to social media campaigns, web design and email communication – to engage with the community and/or specified target audiences. Please submit a one-page summary that includes campaign objectives, links to web presence(s), and analytics demonstrating effectiveness of digital strategy. Please also submit associated supplemental materials for review.

Excellence in Marketing Campaign

Recognizes outstanding work in the strategic plan and execution of a marketing campaign with a single theme and multiple channels that resulted in an increase in awareness, enrollment, applications, student retention, or donor recruitment and/or retention. Please submit a one-page summary outlining strategies and achieved outcomes and include related promotional material used to launch and sustain the campaign. © 2016 The University of Texas System.
