The theme of this outreach event is Collaborative Technology Commercialization and will showcase the collaborative roles and responsibilities of the universities in local and state technology-based economic development. A diverse audience is expected comprising academic and industrial researchers, small business leaders and start-up entrepreneurs, state and local government officials, business service providers, investors, and others interested in regional technology transfer and economic development. Additionally, local media are invited to participate.

Keynote Speaker: Michael D. Burke, Founder/Chair of San Antonio Clean Technology Forum

Mike is President of MDB Capital Ventures, a private equity investment and management consulting firm. He is former director, president and CEO of EOTT Energy, a $12 billion NYSE corporation and the largest marketer and transporter of crude oil in North America. Former director, president and CEO of Tesoro Petroleum Corp. Former Senior Executive with Texas Eastern Corp., Group Vice President-Products, President/CEO of TEPPCO Partners, L.P., and President of La Gloria Oil and Gas.

Mr. Burke received an MBA in Finance and Marketing from the University of Texas and BS-Chemical Engineering degree from Texas A&M University.

Currently serves as a Director for Nutraceutical International, Reasoning Mind Inc., Texas Children’s Defense Fund, and Texas Foundation for Innovative Communities. He is a trustee for Southwest Research Institute and appointed by Mayor Phil Hardberger to the executive committee of the San Antonio Mobility Commission and by Mayor Julian Castro to the San Antonio Green Jobs task force.

Mike serves on the boards of the San Antonio Area Medical Foundation and UTHSCSA Center for Medical Humanities & Ethics and the advisory boards of both the UTSA and UT Austin College of Engineering Advisory Boards.

EventNovember 18, 2009: Translating Our Knowledge of Family History into Public Health Action - STRECH

The month's keynote speaker for the Seminar for Translational Research (STRECH) is Dr. Roldolfo Valdez, Epidemiologist, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta. The seminar starts at 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM and held at the UTHSCSA campus Academic Administration Bldg (AAB) 110.

The Seminars in Translational Research (STRECH) is a collaborative project between the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio’s (UTHSCSA) Institute for Integration of Medicine and Science (IIMS) / Novel Clinical and Translational Methodologies and the University of Texas at San Antonio’s (UTSA) Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) and the Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI).

Seminars will be held the third Wednesday of each month from 4:00-5:00 PM, alternating between the UTSA and UTHSCSA campuses.
