November 18, 2009: Translating Our Knowledge of Family History into Public Health Action - STRECH
The month's keynote speaker for the Seminar for Translational Research (STRECH) is Dr. Roldolfo Valdez, Epidemiologist, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta. The seminar starts at 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM and held at the UTHSCSA campus Academic Administration Bldg (AAB) 110.
The Seminars in Translational Research (STRECH) is a collaborative project between the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio’s (UTHSCSA) Institute for Integration of Medicine and Science (IIMS) / Novel Clinical and Translational Methodologies and the University of Texas at San Antonio’s (UTSA) Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) and the Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI).
Seminars will be held the third Wednesday of each month from 4:00-5:00 PM, alternating between the UTSA and UTHSCSA campuses.

San Antonio-based medical innovations company licenses technology developed at UT Health Science Center
SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 17, 2009) — The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio today announced a license agreement with MCD Life Sciences LLC to commercialize a novel organ preservation technology. The technology, developed through more than a decade of scientific investigations in the School of Medicine, is expected to significantly increase the time that can elapse between removal of donor organs and their transplant into waiting recipients. The current four- to six-hour window could be expanded to as long as a day, the inventors said.
