UT System launched seekUT, a first-of-its-kind website, interactive data tool, and app that provides salary and debt statistics of actual students (from the system's 15 universities) one year and five years after receiving their bachelor’s degree. The project evolved from recommendations by the Student Debt Reduction Task Force, with the express purpose of helping prospective students and their families make informed decisions about their academic careers.
seekUT uses data obtained through its partnerships with the Texas Workforce Commission, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the National Student Clearinghouse, and the Employment Projections program at the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The data reveals what the average student loan debt will be based on major; the number of semester credit hours that are required to earn a bachelor's degree; as well as the experiences of UT graduates who earned their bachelor's degrees between 2007 and 2011; and if they are working full-time in Texas. It gives current and prospective students valuable information about how recent graduates in their fields have fared in the job market.
