Program Overview
The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) offers this 36-credit hour, non-thesis Master's in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Bilingual Education in a convenient, flexible online format designed for working teachers.
The Master's in Bilingual Education program at UTEP includes 12-credit hours of Professional Development courses as well as 24-credit hours of Bilingual Education Concentration coursework.
Spanish language proficiency is not required to purse this degree, but students may find that a basic understanding of the language is helpful in some courses.
Through the Master's in Bilingual Education program, students will gain practical and in-demand skills such:
- A deeper appreciation of and sensitivity to other cultures
- The ability to address the special needs and skills of English language learners and help students from different cultures in the classroom
- The skills to translate pedagogy into concrete strategies
- The level of knowledge needed to be eligible for increasingly senior administrative positions
Types of positions graduates can expect to hold include:
- Bilingual education teacher (all levels)
- Two-way immersion teacher
- English language teacher
- Adult literacy, GED and ESL teacher
