Regents to Meet Regarding U. T. Arlington Presidential Search

The Board of Regents of the University of Texas System will hold a special called meeting by telephone conference call at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15. The meeting will be conducted on the 9th floor of Ashbel Smith Hall, 201 W. 7th Street, Austin.

The agenda includes a closed session for discussion of "personnel matters related to the selection of finalists for president" of U.T. Arlington. Any action will be taken in open session.

Members of the news media may attend the meeting at the address listed above. Parking for the news media will be available at the guard kiosk on Colorado Street between 7th and 6th Streets.

Under state law, a governing board cannot appoint a campus president unless the person has been named as a finalist at least 21 days prior to the appointment. If a finalist or finalists are named on October 15, the earliest an appointment could be made would be November 5.

The new president will succeed Charles Sorber, former president of U.T. Permian Basin and a former official at the System administrative offices in Austin, who has been serving as interim president of U. T. Arlington since March 1. Sorber was named interim president after Robert Witt left the presidency to become president of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
