Former chancellors to share stories, perspective of UT System journey

Stone Phillips to moderate 50th Chancellor’s Council Annual Meeting & Symposium

AUSTIN—Four former chancellors of The University of Texas System will gather together Friday, April 28 to walk down memory lane and help celebrate the golden anniversary of the Chancellor’s Council Annual Meeting & Symposium.

Emmy Award-winning journalist Stone Phillips will moderate the panel discussion between former chancellors Hans Mark, who served from 1984 to 1992; Bill Cunningham (1992 to 2000); Mark Yudof (2002 to 2008); and Francisco Cigarroa (2009 to 2015).

The four men are expected to share the highlights and challenges of their tenures and what it was like to hold one of the most difficult – and rewarding – jobs in Texas.

More than1,000 UT philanthropists who are members of the Chancellor’s Council are expected to attend the event, held annually to share the latest innovations and initiatives at institutions across the UT System.

The Symposium will begin at 3:30 p.m. at UT Austin’s Erwin Center and will kick off with Chancellor William H. McRaven’s State of the System address. In addition, UT institution presidents will delve into engaging discussions on how UT has advanced health care and how the campus culture at universities has evolved over time.

The theme for this year’s event is “Looking Back to Leap Forward,” which pays homage to the 50th anniversary of the meeting, first held in 1967, as well as Chancellor McRaven’s Quantum Leaps.
