Douglas StovesDouglas from UT Rio Grande Valley has shared his experience with Naturally Slim. Our current class is mid-session and the next session will begin in Fall 2017.

 

1) What health behavior did you change?

I lost 70 lbs using the techniques learned using the Naturally Slim program!

 

2) Why did you decide to make this change?

Wanted to lose weight for some time. This program sounded promising. I also know of all of the other problems that accompany obesity. I knew I needed to make a change!

 

3) How did you accomplish your success?

I followed the simple steps that were presented in the weekly videos. I also had a colleague who was doing the program and we supported each other! And my coworkers started seeing a difference in my size and attitude and they also support me!

 

4) How did UT System Living Well or your Institution’s resources and tools help you?

It gave me access to the tools that made it possible to create a new relationship with food! Also it was low risk. I knew I could try it privately and without judgement.

 

5)  What goals and obstacles did you have?

I have been very overweight for some time. So I knew that changing meant changing how, when and what I ate. That it also allowed for me starting exercise where I was physically and would not require me to instantly run a marathon. I started slow and now am much more active!

 

6)  Who supported you during this experience?

My colleagues at work and of course my wife!

 

7) What advice do you have for others who want to make this change?

The way that the programs are structured, it makes it easy to participate! Definitely find others to support you in your efforts once you make the decision. You will rely on them as you go through the programs. And, don't wait to get healthy! I would have never imagined a year ago that I would be looking forward to going for a walk or feeling this energized!
