Ramon Ruiz, Registered Environmental Manager (REM), received his Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (Environmental Science) from UT Arlington as well as an Associate of Applied Science in Occupational Safety & Health/Hazardous Materials Management and Applied Science in Nuclear Technology from Texas State Technical College in Waco.
Ramon has eighteen years of experience at UT Arlington working in all aspects of Environmental Health and Safety. For some four and a half years he was directly responsible for occupational safety, accident investigations, testing safety equipment in laboratories and inspecting campus facilities for hazardous conditions. In another role, he spent four years directly responsible for the biological waste program, performing inspections of laboratories and/or maintenance shops and performing chemical safety lectures to university students and conducting training for university employees handling, or possibly coming in contact with, biological hazards or hazardous chemicals. For eight years he managed the personnel who oversee the UT Arlington, Biological Safety program, Chemical Inventory program, Hazardous Waste program and the Storm water Management program, Laboratory Safety, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permitting program, Clean Air Act permitting program, Indoor Air Quality program and liaison between UT Arlington and UT System’s insurance claims program.
