Dr. Fleuriet received a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Stanford University, an M.A. in Anthropology from San Diego State University, and a B.A. in Anthropology from Harvard University. She is an Associate Professor of Anthropology and Associate Dean of the Honors College at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Her roots are in South Texas. She grew up in Harlingen, Texas, in a family with a long history of professional and volunteer service. What drew her to UTSA remains her primary professional motivation: to engage in research, teaching, and service that help to understand sociocultural processes that influence health and wellbeing in South Texas. Her work considers health, health care and illness from political economic and feminist perspectives, and her theoretical and applied research topics include reproductive health and health care, gender and caregiving in the academy, wellbeing and aging, and community wellbeing. Dr. Fleuriet mentors undergraduate Anthropology and Honors thesis students, Master's students, and doctoral students in cultural and medical anthropology. In the classroom, Dr. Fleuriet teaches cultural and medical anthropology, applied anthropology, gender and the body, anthropological pedagogy, and courses in intentional living around wellbeing, death and dying. She is committed to implementing high-impact teaching practices in scalable and affordable ways at UTSA through her work in her courses and in the development and implementation of a new experiential learning curriculum in the Honors College. Her work has been recognized at UTSA with the 2015 President's Distinguished Achievement Award for Teaching Excellence (tenured faculty member) and the 2016 President's Distinguished Award for Community Engagement.
