CPRIT awards $54 million to UT institutions to fight cancer

UT institutions have been awarded $54 million from the Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas, or CPRIT, to advance Texas’ fight against cancer.

Collectively, eight UT institutions will receive $54 million of the $78 million in statewide awards recently announced by CPRIT.

The following UT institutions received awards for academic research and prevention initiatives:

CPRIT was established after Texas voters approved a constitutional amendment in 2007 authorizing the state to issue $3 billion in bonds to fund groundbreaking cancer research and prevention programs and services. In November 2019, Texas voters approved a constitutional amendment to provide an additional $3 billion to CPRIT for a total $6 billion investment in cancer research and prevention.

To date, CPRIT has provided $2.49 billion to support research and programs that benefit Texans in every area of the state. Of that, more than $1.3 billion has been awarded to UT institutions.
