Dr. Daniel K. Podolsky became president of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in September 2008. He is an internationally renowned physician scientist and has been associated with Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital – where he has served as chief of gastroenterology since 1989 – for his entire career. He previously served as chief academic officer of Partners HealthCare. He is currently on the board of directors and audit committee of GlaxoSmithKline. Podolsky earned his undergraduate degree (summa cum laude) from Harvard College and medical degree from Harvard Medical School.

Dr. David L. Callender was appointed president of the UT Medical Branch at Galveston in September 2007. Dr. Callender also holds an appointment in otolaryngology and is a head and neck surgeon with a special interest in head and neck cancer. Previously Dr. Callender served as the associate vice chancellor and CEO for the UCLA Hospital System. Prior to that he held numerous administrative positions at the UT M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Dr. Giuseppe N. Colasurdo was named President ad interim of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in April 2011. He was designated dean and H. Wayne Hightower Distinguished Professor in the Medical Sciences of The University of Texas Medical School in September 2007, and will continue to serve in that position during his term as president ad interim. Board certified in Pediatric Pulmonology and licensed to practice medicine in Italy, Texas and Colorado, Dr. Colasurdo remains an active clinical pulmonologist. He is the CEO and president of UT Physicians, the medical practice of The University of Texas Medical School at Houston.

Dr. William L. Henrich was named as president of the health science center in June 2009. Henrich has served as vice president for medical affairs and dean of the health science center's School of Medicine since March 2006. He also holds the John P. Howe, III, M.D. Distinguished Chair in Health Policy. Previously, he was chair of medicine and held an endowed professorship at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore. He also was physician-in-chief at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

 Dr. John Mendelsohn was named president of the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in July 1996. Previously he was chairman of the Department of Medicine at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He is nationally recognized for integrating basic biomedical research with clinical studies and for organizing collaborative programs between industry and academic institutions.

 Dr. Kirk Aquilla Calhoun became president of the UT Health Science Center at Tyler on November 1, 2002. Prior to his appointment, Calhoun was senior vice president and medical director at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. He was also a faculty member and administrator at the UT Medical Branch at Galveston from 1993 to 2000.
