TexasThe 85th Session of the Texas Legislature continues through May 29th with thousands of bills now actively moving through the legislative process. Because there are several stages of consideration before a bill is finalized, it’s still too soon to predict which of the 6599 bills filed may become law and which won’t.

As the final weeks of the regular session wind down, OEB continues to closely monitor the legislative process, with an emphasis on bills with the potential to affect your UT Benefits program. In other articles included within this newsletter, you can read more about the upcoming Annual Enrollment period. Additional information about what you can expect for the 2017-2018 plan year, including any changes based on state legislative updates, will be provided as soon as more specific details become available.

For those who may be interested in following the 85th Legislative Session more closely online, you can find information at www.capitol.state.tx.us. There are a number of available resources to help you navigate the Texas Legislature website including a section titled "How Do I…" where you can find a list of filed bills, follow the status of a bill, view the schedules for hearings, and see how legislators voted on legislation of interest to you.

As the end of the Legislative session nears, the Office of Employee Benefits will be sharing more specific details about your UT Benefits program. It is important for employees and retirees to keep contact information up to date, especially email addresses. If you know of other employees or retirees who are not receiving this newsletter electronically, please encourage them to contact the HR or Benefits office at their institution to update their email address.
