Susan Doty is the founding and executive director of the Center for Economic Education and Financial Literacy at The University of Texas at Tyler, where she serves on the economic faculty as both distinguished senior lecturer and teaching professor. Doty has extensive not for profit experience and has served on multiple boards, including the National Council for Economic Education, the State Jumpstart Coalition for personal finance and the National Association for Economic Education, where she is a past president. She completed her undergraduate work in biology at Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts, and has an MBA from Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island. Doty spent a first career in the biotechnology industry, where she was a champion of innovation and entrepreneurship. She has been teaching economics and personal finance for over 30 years now in her 16th year at UT Tyler, Doty has taught over 8,500 undergraduate students and 2,500 teachers, previously at the Sam Walton School of Business at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, the Maxwell School of Public Policy at Syracuse University, and the University of Southern Mississippi. She is an award-winning educator who has received the 2015 UT System Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award and the 2016 UT Tyler Student Life and Leadership Partnership Award. She is a founding fellow and president-elect of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers at UT Tyler. In addition, Doty serves on the finances affinity group of the UT System Chancellor's Quantum Leap in Student Success.
