A good class is like a good conversation: it involves an exchange.
And the instructor has to make the first move. I can't expect students to be interested in my world until I have traveled to theirs. When the starting point of our journey together is where they happen to be at the start of the term, we are much more likely to reach our common destination and have an exciting time getting there.
