The best I can do as a teacher is to facilitate my students’ abilities to make discoveries.
The discoveries I expect from my students need not revolutionize political science, but they ought to revolutionize my students’ understanding of the political world. If my students reach the end of the semester and have not discovered surprising and important aspects of their government or the world in which they live, then I am disappointed. If they have not learned the method of discovery, I have failed.
