Disability Insurance - Active Employee

Main page content

PLEASE NOTE: The long-time administrator for UT short- and long-term disability benefits, Dearborn, re-branded under the name Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Both companies are under the umbrella of Health Care Services Corporation (HCSC), so the changes were in name only.

Disability insurance is an optional insurance plan available to regular benefits-eligible active employees. Disability insurance replaces a portion of your income if you suffer a prolonged illness or non-work related injury that prevents you from doing your job. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) (formerly Dearborn) provides short-term disability (STD) and long-term disability (LTD) insurance benefits for active UT System employees. This benefit is not available for dependents.

For complete details about the disability plans, please read the plan documents and contact the vendor for any specific benefit questions or to initiate a claim.
