Since 2009, The University of Texas System and the Texas Association of Community Colleges have partnered annually to host the All-Texas Academic Team Medallion Ceremony, which celebrates outstanding community colleges students who plan to transfer to four-year institutions or join the workforce. Texas is one of 39 participating states that host All-State Academic Team ceremonies through Phi Theta Kappa.
Community college students are eligible to apply to the All-Texas Academic Team in December each year. Phi Theta Kappa advisers at these community college then select nominees from the applicant pool.
All nominated students are recognized as part of the All-Texas Academic Team. A select number of students are chosen by Phi Theta Kappa to advance to the All-USA Academic Team, which comes with a $5000 scholarship and a special medallion for the student winners, as well as a commemorative obelisk for their community college president.
Additionally, from the All-Texas Academic Team, Phi Theta Kappa selects a number of Coca-Cola Scholarship winners:
- Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholars ($1500)
- Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholars ($1250)
- Coca-Cola Academic Team Bronze Scholars ($1000)
The 2021 All-Texas Academic Team
On March 26, The 2021 All-Texas Academic Team Medallion Ceremony was held virtually via Zoom with approximately 200 participants, including student recipients and their guests, community college presidents, Phi Theta Kappa advisers, four-year university sponsors, and members of both The University of Texas System and the Texas Association of Community Colleges. A total of 131 Texas students were inducted into the 2021 All-Texas Academic Team.
