NEW! The UT Benefits program now includes additional benefit options to help employees plan for the unexpected before it happens. The new UT Lifestyle Benefits include plans offering robust coverage at lower premium rates than similar plans available for purchase on the open market. Depending on your family's needs, the plans can help you avoid tapping into your hard-earned savings or other sources to cover eligible expenses.
Benefits-eligible active employees** can now enroll in one or more of the new plans for coverage beginning September 1, 2026. Options include plans with coverage for Accidents, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity, as well as Legal Coverage and Pet Insurance. Retirees are not currently eligible for the UT Lifestyle benefit plans offered by Securian Financial and LegalEASE, but do have the option to enroll in the Pet Insurance offered by MetLife.
Some high-level information about each of the plans is provided below along with links to resources provided by the plan administrators for each plan.

Accident Insurance, Critical Illness, Hospital Indemnity Coverage
Accident plan
With Accident insurance you get protection that goes beyond what medical insurance covers. The plan provides a cash benefit for covered accidental injuries, including broken bones or dislocated joints. Consider this coverage if you have kids in sports, live an active lifestyle, or simply want to be prepared so accidents hurt a little less financially.
Critical Illness plan
Critical Care insurance goes beyond what medical insurance covers as well. This plan provides a cash benefit if you're diagnosed with a covered critical illness such as a heart attack or cancer. Consider enrolling in this plan if you have a family history of critical illness or want to help plan for the unexpected.
Hospital Indemnity plan
Hospital Indemnity insurance also provides a cash benefit to help cover out-of-pocket expenses for hospital stays, helping to pay costs that would otherwise be out-of-pocket costs under your regular medical coverage. This insurance may be especially beneficial if you are pregnant (or planning to be), have a planned surgery, or want to prepare better for life's twists and turns.
Legal Coverage
Plan Overview
Enrolling in a legal benefits plan reduces the stress of finding and paying for an attorney when it matters most. LegalEASE offers a plan with valuable legal benefits. The plan provides support and protection for personal legal issues and helps you protect your family and your savings when legal services are needed.
Pet Insurance
Pet Benefit Overview
MetLife Pet Insurance can help cover the costs of unexpected accidents, illnesses and routine care for your family pet(s), so you can focus on getting the care they need without letting costs drive decisions. Help protect both your pet’s health and your wallet. Pet insurance through MetLife offers a choice of reimbursement options so you can find coverage that fits your budget. Services can be provided anywhere by any licensed provider, and rates vary depending on the pets covered and coverage levels elected.
**IMPORTANT NOTE: UT Dallas and UT Tyler will not offer benefits through Securian Financial and LegalEASE for the 2026-2027 Plan Year. We understand these benefits are meaningful to many employees and appreciate your patience as both institutions continue to evaluate offering them in the future. These institutions are participating in the Pet Insurance offered by MetLife.
